According to Department of Antiquities in Palmyra, the archaeological site has not so far been subjected to any damage, and it is still under control of the Syrian government, with the continuous of clashes between the national security forces and the terrorist organization of "ISIS" at several axes near the archaeological site.
Since the beginning of the crisis on 2012, the Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums took several precautionary measures to protect the site, i.e reinforcing the gates of tombs containing funeral scenes, then re-bury all the gates, transfering the museum objects to more secure places, and communicating with the various figures of the local community in order to raise awareness of the importance of preserving the cultural heritage and reduce the risk.
DGAM succeeded in cooperation with the local authorities in retrieving 120 objects that have been looted from several parts of the archaeological site.
