Documenting damage at Mari site using 3D technology

As part of the Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums’ plan is to enumerate and document the damage of archaeological heritage during years of war waged against our country.

A team from the Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums has completed damage documentation work at the site of Mari in Deir_Ezzor governorate, the making of the 3-D model of the site represented by using the images of a remotely piloted dron and Technologies new

The results showed major vandalism of the Royal Palace and a huge amount of illegal excavation throughout the site and a number of underground excavations have also been confined to the area and documented the architectural parts of the excavations.

It is worth mentioning that the site of Mari is one of the first sites that have been subjected to systematic acts of vandalism and theft by armed terrorist groups and antiquities thieves
