The Current statue of the archaeological sites in rural Idlib

The local community at rural Idlib reported that the archaeological sites in Barisha and Al A'la mountains at northern Syrian limestone massif had witnessed different acts of damage and vandalism among them:
Al A'la mountain: 
• Baqirha and Khrbet Al-Khatib:  The sites still in a good condition, small scale of illegal diggings founds there.
• Dier Qitta: The condition of the site still unknown, armed groups prevent local community to enter the site.
• Khrbet Dierouna & Dahss:  The site is in good condition.
• Al Kfier church: The condition remain the same, no new illegal diggings witnessed there.
• Qalb Loza church: Same to its previous damage state.
• Alnuarih, Banqaphore,Bureij and the Palace of Banabeul: Same to its previous damage state.
• Tell Maez: Small scale of illegal diggings.
 
Barisha Mountain
•    Beshkoh: Small scale of illegal diggings, the site is still in a good condition.
It is noted that most of the vandalism acts limited to illegal diggings using of manual tools, in addition to using the ancient stones for building material and illegal constructions.
It is worth mentioning that, many of these archaeological sites had been listed on the World Heritage list "Ancient Villages in North of Syria, 2011". The General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums in collaboration with the local community and the staff in the province of Idlib had worked on reducing and motivating the local community to provide assistance in  protecting these sites, that represent their heritage, a source of pride for the people of Idlib and for Syria as well and an important part of the global human heritage.
The DGAM thanks all the efforts made by the local community where collaboration resulted in the protection many of the archaeological sites in Idlib.
